The Correct Feeding and Housing of Your Home Birds
June 26th, 2008If you want to keep your bird in auspicious conditions you are to pay serious attention to its nourishment. Birds that dwell in people's houses in decorative cages usually belong to granivorous birds. And as a result many people think that such birds are to eat only seeds. But in truth such birds vary their ration each time of the year in natural conditions. Birds like to diversify their feed with different kinds of animal forages, greens, fruits, tree barks and so on. That is why the diversity of feeds will bring your bird robust.
Today one can buy wild bird seed practically anywhere, even on the web. But you are not to feed your bird only with corn during a whole year because it doesn't really correspond to different bird nutrition in nature.
Lots of birds may have the same forage for a long period of time and don't reveal any symptoms of a disease. Scientists observe such diseases as the malfunction of moult, obesity, disorder of the reproductive function etc. All these occasions are conditional on incorrect feeding of birds. Vitamins and proteins are also needed for the birds' organism because without them different infectious illnesses can appear.
So the basis of a bird's ration contains grain mixtures. It is highly important for birds that the blend should include various sorts of grains (wheat, oats, millet, maize etc) and seeds (canary seed, herbage seeds and lettuce's seeds). Also you may attach there different oil-yielding crops such as sunflower seeds, poppy seeds, hemp seeds and various nuts. But these kinds of crops should be added in a small amount because overuse of oil-yielding seeds provokes overweight.
Your bird should have an everyday norm of its ration because each species has its own daily norm. You may find that a canary will have only 1 teaspoon a day and Cockatiel Parakeet's norm is one tablespoonful.
Also you can include in the mixture a large variety of greeneries, fruits, vegetables, wild herbage, fresh leaves and branches of trees. Animal forage must be included to a bird's meal as a source of proteins. It may be eggs (only in boiled condition), fatless cottage cheese or small amount of nonfat minced meat. You must give such feeds to your bird one time a week, but in molt period it will be two times a week and if it is a period of breeding - give it each day. In the bird's cage must be also situated a feeder with a piece of chalk or small stones, they are important for a normal digestion.
Birds also want a spacious cage for them to feel convenient. If you incline to bird houses you may buy them at every online pet shop today.
