Scientists got known about such materials in the end of the 19th century, but just in the 20th century scientists managed to get more knowledge about them. In 1923 Russian scientists proved the ability of utilizing of semiconductor-metal contacts to accelerate the generation of fluctuations. There was no opportunity to develop some sophisticated devices as semiconductor assembly. Only in the beginning of the 60's with the invention of transistors in 1949 the broad usage of crystal detectors began. That was the beginning of the epoch of semiconductor technologies.

Induced emission is actually a quite interesting feature of semiconductors that has been discovered for several tens of years. First laser device was developed with usage of semiconductors. The first version was based on p - n barriers, the latest ones - on heterojunction.

Nowadays we may see a huge amount of various power semiconductor devices that work with help of usage of semiconductors. Semiconductor matters have been researched for not so long but radio electronics and lots of other sciences can't do without utilizing of them.

The conductivity of semiconductors is situated in diapason between conductivity of metals and conductivity of isolators. This feature is caused the division of semiconductors as a detached class. There are some substances which are basically utilized to develop the semiconductor devices. They are germanium, selenium, silicon, etc.

Physicists haven't been interested in semiconductors for quite a long period of time. The first researches of semiconductors were begun by well-known soviet physicist Abram Ioffe. He found that semiconductors are the divided class of crystals with some definite features. Any semiconductor device has got such basic features as electron and hole conduction. It is related to the chemical composition of the introduced admixtures. The admixtures affect considerably on the electron conduction of the semiconductors.

The most important semiconductor systems which are used in technologies are diodes, transistors and thyristors that are based on elements with electron and hole conductions. Their sophisticated characteristics are frequently used nowadays, but they became spread just ten years ago. There is a possibility to convert almost every type of energy into electric power by mans of semiconductors. Some of them are even able to develop cold and heat. Semiconductors execute the main functions in many different devices: atomic batteries, quantum generators, processors and even primitive radio receivers. Almost every worker who works in company related to electricity should know how important the power resistors are. In case we compare devices operating on semiconductors and tube systems we will realize that semiconductors are considerably smaller and lighter. The analogue systems are not equal in case we speak about their reliability and power. Tube drops behind.

From day to day we may hear about some newest inventions which help people to have more conveniences or even save the lives.
